Hey all -

As you’ve probably heard, there are 5 incredible films from the 2007 IFP Narrative Rough Cut Lab at SXSW this year! On the last night of the IFP Market I shared beers with Team Awesome from Rainbow Around the Sun, and hoped that maybe….just maybe….a bunch of us could end up at SXSW together. It’s going to be a blast and I can’t wait to see their films!

You can get screening times for The New Year Parade on the SXSW site.

We’re also one of three Philly films heading to Austin, including Mark Webber’s “Explicit Ills.” Moviemaker Magazine listed Philly as the top city to film in this year and quite a few reviews have been mentioning “Phillywood,” which I had to Google. But it makes sense - there are tons of good filmmakers here, fantastic resources for equipment, postproduction, locations, and a strong film office.

In other news, amazing things have been happening since Slamdance. We’re in talks with distributors and more are coming to see the film in Austin. There’s also a new website, a snazzy “quotes” trailer, and updated myspace page so check them out!

We’re trying to take what we learned at Slamdance to build momentum going into SXSW. We did not have a publicist heading into Park City, which was a risky move due to the flood of films. However, things worked out well in the end - allowing us to get a great deal of press without paying for it. We’re now working on a list of press outlets and distributors we hope to target in the coming weeks.

As we head to warmer weather and bbq’s, we are planning to build a strong web presence, and to build on the reviews and accolades to gain exposure. As pieces of the puzzle come together, I’ll keep you posted. For now, I have a bit of tweaking to do before shipping the master off Monday!

Finally, f you’re going to be in Austin for the music fest, The New Year Parade’s own Greg Lyons will be playing with his band, Eastern Conference Champions. They are insanely good live! During our second year of filming, ECC was signed to Suretone, home of Weezer and The Cure. Greg was totally dedicated and would fly back and forth from LA to finish shooting. This video just hit MTV last month and is a great take on One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

They also just posted this awesome homemade stop motion video that really takes me back to the movies I made in high school with action figures. Eastern Conference Champions - Single Sedative Music Video
